The Undead series and the Adventures of Betsy, the Vampire Queen Reviewed

Mary Janice Davidson has created a world populated with vampires, werewolves, ghosts, fiends, demons and regular old humans.

I have had a real hoot reading the undead series of books by Mary Janice Davidson:

Meet Vampire Queen Betsy Taylor, or Elizabeth Taylor. Blond, beautiful, 6′ tall, a huge fan of designer shoes and has a wicked sense of humor. King of the Vampires is Eric Sinclair, just called Sinclair by Betsy and is a gorgeous hunk. They live together with an odd assortment of humans, vampires, fiends, ghosts and a werewolf in an enormous mansion.Vampire Queen Betsy has run ins with various bad ass vampires and acquires their property as she disposes of them, such as a bar and a farm to name just a couple. She has a great deal of trouble planning a wedding for herself and Sinclair. He does not immediately see any need of marriage as according to the Book of the Dead, they are already married and will live together for 1000 years. Betsy has tried to get rid of Book of the Dead but it keeps coming back, a la the folk song, “The Cat Came Back.”

Vampire Queen Betsy has wild and hilarious adventures and in the process is discovering that she is no ordinary vampire. For instance, unlike most vampires, she can actually go out in the sun, and can go blood-free for quite awhile. She drinks smoothies to assuage her blood hunger pangs, but cannot eat solids. She also has some unnamed power to take the life force of other vampires and either leave them unconscious or dead. So far in my reading she has not discovered how to control it. I haven’t read the latest two books.

Vampire Queen Betsy has Half Sister That is a Devil’s Daughter

Queen Betsy’s half sister Laura is literally the daughter of the devil. Laura is rebelling against the devil by church attendance, teaching Sunday school classes and charitable volunteering. She does however have a really bad temper and a magic sword.

I am having a lot of fun reading these books about Betsy, the Vampire Queen. No, they are not high drama or great literary creations. They qualify as a guilty pleasure and I highly recommend The Undead Series. At first I was not sure that I liked Mary Janice Davidson’s writing style, but I have grown to love Betsy, the Vampire Queen and all the other characters that inhabit her world.
