Alexander Skarsgård, Vampire Sheriff Eric Northman Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer as Sookie Stackhouse and Vampire Bill

True Blood Episode 11, Soul of Fire

True Blood Vampires, Shifters and now Witches, Oh My!

The witches of True Blood

I have been watching the past four episodes of true blood with amazement. It would appear that the vampires, namely King Bill Compton, his vampire child Jessica, Sheriff Eric Northman and his vampire child Pam have met their match. Marnie has shown her true colors by a forceably taking possession of the spirit of Antonia . Remember back to the episode when Sookie went for a reading from Marnie and her Grans spirit came through and warned her away. The spirit of the witch Antonia tried to leave Marnie’s control because she did not want to kill innocents. Marnie was so full of hate for all vampires that she would also kill anyone that gets in her way.. As the True Blood Episode 11, Soul of Fire, opens she has also imprisoned the witches who initially helped her including Sookie, Lafayette and Jesus.

The Shifters of True Blood

As a result of Tommy’s death in the previous episode,Sam Merlotte, Luna, Alcide and Debbie Pelt all come together for a climactic ending. Luna’s husband. Marcus is killed and notably Alcide abjures Debbie Pelt. For werewolves abjuration is akin to shunning on an individual level. In the Sookie Stackhouse book series written by Charlaine Harris,. Alcide also abjures Debbie Pelt, but under entirely different circumstances.

The Vampires of True Blood

After a second infusion of Jessica’s blood, Jason confesses to her and he thinks of her all the time but is torn between his desire for her and not wanting to hurt his life long friend, Hoyt. Jason is developing scruples it would appear.

This episode is pretty much nonstop action, but what I found emotionally moving was Sookie’s reaction after the vampires had taken out Marnie. Eric behaves gruesomely when he rips the heart out of the witches protecting Marnie and then sips from an artery like it was a soft drink. She had no dialog but the camera close ups showed her pain as she recognized all over again that Bill and Eric were cold blooded killers. I wonder if she will still love them both in the upcoming episode.

The character of King Bill is totally different than in the book series where Sookie falls out of love with him but he remains devoted to her. In the book series Bill has no power or ambition other than to research and create a record of all living vampires (oxymoron there). He then markets his research on DVD’s to other vampires.

The Fairies of True Blood?

Sheriff Andy has a raging addition to V and after a talk with his cousin Terry is left to hike back home through the woods. He has an interesting intimate encounter with a fairy. The folklore of the Sookie Stackhouse vampire book series has it that the fairies are not very fertile and have few children. Perhaps this is the beginning of a new story line regarding a fairy child.

The Witches of True Blood

Jesus is able to break the spell binding Antonia to Marnie and is able to save the lives of Sookie and the the other imprisoned witches. He feels great remorse after Bill and Eric kill Marnie.   As usual, the writers have left us with a surprise at the end of the episode. Ding, dong the wicked witch is dead, and gone, maybe not!

I am looking forward to the next episode of True Blood.
