True Blood Characters Bite the Dust

“And Now I Die” is an apt title for this last episode of True Blood Season 4. A number of True Blood characters have bit the dust. Sam Merlotte’s little brother, Tommy, was beaten to death by a pack of werewolves in a previous episode. Marnie was taken out by the King of Mississippi, Bill Compton and Sheriff Eric Northman, again in a previous episode. The real shocker was the death of Jesus, Layafette’s boyfriend. Marnie’s spirit came back, took possession of Lafayatte and then had him kill Jesus. Debbie Pelt, Alcides former girlfriend, attacked Sookie and Tara in a jealous rage with a shotgun. Sookie then shot and killed Debbie but it appears as if Tara was dead or dying at series end. In this series, dead doesn’t necessarily mean dead.

The True Blood scene with Debbie Pelt was not a total surprise to any reader of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. Sookie killed Debbie in self defence, but the setting was different. It happened when Eric was suffering from amnesia and was staying at Sookie’s house. Sookie had him take Debbie Pelt’s body out and dispose of it.

Is Tara Really Dead?

The writers have left us with a real cliffhanger to make sure we are all watching and waiting for season 5. Is Tara really dead or will she be saved? Will she be saved by Vampire Bill? Bill and Eric always come running when Sookie is in dire need.

Who Will Sookie Love?

What about a relationship between Sookie and Alcide, the werewolf? Nothing much came of that relationship in the Sookie Stackhouse book series. In the book series she had bad experiences when she helped his pack. Can Sookie really stay away from her vampire lovers for good. Her relationships with vampires are so central to the story line in both the True Blood TV series and the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris that I doubt that she will stay away from Vampire Bill or Sheriff Eric Northman for long. Pam’s anger over Sheriff Eric Northman’s love for Sookie is a surprise. In the Sookie Stackhouse book series, she and Pam have almost a friendship.

Will Sam Find Love?

Is Sam going to live happily ever after with Luna and her daughter or will the fact that he took out her estranged husband for killing his brother, Tommy, doom his chances.

What Will Rene’s Ghost Do to Arlene and Terry?

Arlene and Terry may have problems with a haunting by her homicidal ex-husband, Rene Lenier. It appears that Rene’s ghost is back because of his baby. Rene murdered a number of women in True Blood Season 1 including Sookie’s Gran.

Will Andy and Holly Become an Item?

Andy appears to have kicked V and has the possibility of a relationship with Holly, a waitress at Merlotte’s. She was also a part of the witch’s circle. There is also that episode where he made love to what I presume was a fairy. Is he going to be presented with a baby at some point in the future?

Is Jason and Hoyt’s Friendship Over?

Jason and Jessica are sort of an item. Jessica is asserting her independence and embracing her vampire side rather than trying to act like a human. After Jason was beaten by Hoyt, I wonder if they will resume their friendship.

What Will Russell Edgington Do?

Where is Russell Edgington? One of the last scenes in the episode showed the spot where he was buried in concrete and it looked like he escaped. That is a bad news set up for for Bill, Eric and Sookie. They will be on his hit list for sure. He hates Sookie because she dumped out the remains of his long time consort and ran them through a garbage disposal. Bill and Eric were the ones who buried him in concrete.

Will the Vampire League Hunt Down Vampire Bill and Sheriff Eric Northman

The Vampire League may have it in for Bill and Eric after they staked Nan Flanagan, a leader and spokesperson. Nan was responsible for helping Vampire Bill kill the Queen of Mississippi and become king.

Final Thoughts on True Blood Season 4

All in all I enjoyed the True Blood Season 4. I have come to terms with the differences between the True Blood TV Series and the Sookie Stackhouse book series. I keep wondering if the writers will start a story line with more fairies. When they had Eric attack and kill Sookie’s fairy godmother, it seemed to end her involvement with fairies. You can see that the True Blood writers have left their options open. We will just have to wait and see what new adventures they think up for the True Blood characters.
